While traditional psychotherapy addresses imbalances in mood and supports clients in cultivating insight, a psychospiritual or spiritual psychotherapeutic approach adds a dimension that emphasizes the journey of the soul which may include strengthening a connection with a higher power or to a higher self-perspective and can provide greater insight to what might be contributing to your challenges.
Sessions may include:
- Exploring psychospiritual crisis' (i.e feeling disconnected, sense of inauthenticity, not feeling yourself)
- Working through what might be contributing to any blocks, resistances, contracts (i.e Carl Jung’s concept of Shadow Self)
- Empowering you to deepen your connection to your inner wisdom and truth.
- Expand consciousness and inviting spirit into the psychotherapy session (i.e. through various mindfulness-based practices such as meditation, prayer, affirmations, trance, or energy work such as reiki healing or chakra balancing)
Transformation takes place when we address both our dark and light sides. As we acknowledge our pain and suffering we also celebrate the learning that happens through collaborative treatment methods. We start to learn to accept ourselves, our imperfections, and our humanness from a place of our very own soul, being guided by our gut-instinct to trust ourselves and very own heart more.
This is the process of self realization of which Eastern mystics have written. It is the process of salvation to which much Western theology has devoted itself. This is the spiritual path!
